NUMBER Centers
ā
NUMBER centers are a series of math tasks which students complete daily while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. NUMBER activities are based on the Common Core while using the Math Expressions curriculum in a Daily 5 format. These centers help students develop number sense for use in the real world while working in cooperative learning teams with their peers. Students spend time building stamina and independence in each station.

N - Number Sense
Students build confidence with numbers 0 - 20. Students learn counting, number order, place value, sets, and 1 to 1 correspondence.
U - Using manipulatives
Using a hands-on approach with a variety of objects, students learn sorting, patterning, shapes, spatial visualization, graphing, addition, and subtraction.
M - Math Magic
Math Expressions written activities:
After learning math skills using manipulatives, students apply skills in written form.
B - Buddy Games
Working cooperatively, students learn to share, take turns, and work as a team using an "inside voice" to learn math concepts.

E - Extra Teacher Time
Students work in heterogeneous groups or ability groups with the teacher in a small group setting to learn math concepts. This gives the teacher the opportunity to work closely with "at risk" students and use a rigorous approach to challenge students at their individual learning levels.
R - Repeat Math Magic
Math Expressions written activities:
After learning math skills using manipulatives, students apply skills in written form.
